After a fun-filled career working five years on Wall Street for Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, and Kidder Peabody, in the Mortgage-backed securities sector, John Brown turned his sights to become a registered stock broker, where he went on to work for two years for Reich & Company, until the market dropped in 1990. It was at this point where Brown switched careers and started working in the Remote Production business.
John joined MetroVision Production Group in late 1990, overseeing the operations side of the business. He began running the day-to-day operations of multi-camera fly packs, ENG camera packages and live events. John managed roughly 15 to 20 camera packages and 40 to 50 crew members on any giving day. Eventually, John began to plan and build a mobile truck division within MetroVision. He helped build the company up to 12 mobile units, ranging from Ku/C Band, uplink units, to mobile hybrid production multi-camera trucks.
Over the next several years, John built relationships and secured contracts with Bloomberg Television, APTN, EuroVision, NTV, ARD and the Fox Television Network. It was not long before John began working the sports market, building additional relationships with clients such as SNY, Yes Network, and the MLB Network.
After 20 plus years in the business, John Brown left MetroVision and started his own company, Freedom Broadcast Group, LLC., in 2013. He started the company with a single Ku-Band uplink truck and has grown the business to 8 mobile units, including uplink trucks, full production units, hybrid units, support trucks a generator trucks.
In 2020, John founded Freedom Broadcast Studios, LLC. Under this secondary company, he built out four state-of-the art production control rooms (PCR’s) to handle REMI productions for his clients. At this point, the company could offer its clients services from both the control room side and the remote production side with his mobile units. The studio facility has both National and Regional control rooms for client use.
John is a two-time EMMY Award winner and has over 35 years of broadcast experience, as an executive, owner, and technical manager. He has worked on many high-profile events, like the AFC Championships, World Series, MLB Winter Meetings, and Live Nation Concerts. His client base has included CBS Sports, CBS Sports Network, MLB Network, SNY, ESPN, YES Network, the National Women’s Soccer League, MSG, the Food Network, Colonial Athletic League, National Lacrosse League.
